Ruth Evans, an r.c.t.q. subscriber, was a teacher in Caldwell, Idaho, and made many friends on the newsgroup and hosted a fat-quarter fabric swap every month.
In August 1998 Ruth told the newsgroup that she had ovarian cancer. R.c.t.q. subscribers made quilt blocks in Ruth's choices of colors for her to put together during her recuperation.
It was soon apparent that Ruth would not be able to put the blocks together, so we decided to make the quilt for her. However, Ruth passed away just six short weeks after the cancer was discovered.
By that time, many quilt blocks had been collected. The newsgroup decided to go ahead and make the quilt and give it to her family.
